Bégin and Laraque Leaving town ?..Smyth arriving ?

With the trade deadline approaching fast, George Laraque and Steve Bégin could be the odd men out.

After practice on wednesday both of the guys expressed their frustration about not being in the lineup. Especially Big George who said he wasn't satisfied with his ice time and if he would of known he would be used like, he wouldn't of signed with Montreal this summer. Well all I have to say George is "GOOD RIDDENCE" you havn't lived up to your hype anyway.

As for Steve Bégin he stayed calm, and just mentionned he was ready for a possible trade. Too bad for the hard working 30 year old, but he isn't what he team needs right now and could be good trading material for Gainey.

As for other trade rumors flying around, sources tell me that the Canadiens are getting closer to a deal with Colorado to acquire "Captain Canada" Ryan Smyth. Stay tuned for more details.

Tampa Bay holding back Tortorella

The New York Rangers would like to sign John Tortorella to a contract to replace Tom Renney as the head coach in the big apple, but it would seem that the Tampa Bay Lighting won't let Tottorella go without a fight.

The NHL is looking into the situation to try and resolve the problem (one of many the Tampa Bay lighting have had this year).

Tortorella is well known for his hard and aggressive coaching and is probably what the Rangers need right know after loosing 10 of their last 12 games.

Bouwmeester on the move?

With The trade deadline approching, the Folrida Panthers have a big decision to make.... Will they keep Boumeester and risk loosing him this summer when he becomes an unristricted free agent?

Bouwmeester 25 is making 4.825 million this season and will demand a much deserved pay increse next season. But that is not all, it is believed that he would like to play in a bigger and better hockey market.

He ws quoted saying "We've had some success, and people are coming out a little bit", "It's something that hasn't been here since I've been here. That's kind of what you want." to the Miami Herald. He also said "There's been times when it's been kind of depressing almost. There's nobody there. But they haven't really had much to come and cheer about in the past."

Rumours have circulated in the past that the Montreal Canadiens were looking to acquire the 6'4" 214lbs defence, but with the new acquisition of Mathieu Schneider I doubt they are still going after Boumeester.

Rumours flooting aroud are that the Boston Bruins and the Philidelphia Flyers are interested, but nothing is done yet.

Stay tuned to the Sportster Guy for breaking news on any movement.

Trade Update - Senators & Islanders

Seems like The New York Islanders traded Mike Comrie (center) and Chris Campoli (defence) for Dean McAmmond (center) and a 2009 first-round pick from the Ottawa Senators (The first-round draft choice originally belonged to the San Jose Sharks, and came from the Tampa Bay Lightning when they acquired Andrej Meszaros from the Senators for Filip Kuba and Alexandre Picard)

Mike Comerie is coming back to Ottawa where he played his 2006-07 season scoring 13 goals and getting 25 points in 41 games.

Kovalev's back

After being left behind for the Habs last 2 game road trip, it seems like Kovalev (and the Canadiens) took the time to think about his future with the team and will be back in the montreal line up saturdays game against the Ottawa senators.

Montreal Canadiens G.M. Bob Gainey said he has had many discussions with both his star player and his coaching team, and both sides have come to an agreement to lead the team forward and hopefully make the playoffs.

Gainey though refused to say that Kovalev will not be traded.

I have a feeling this things not over, considering the fact that Kovalev is an Unrestricted free agent this summer.

Canadiens "BIG BOMB"

Yesterday night we all held our breath for a while, and all of the montreal media was in a frency.....everyone was talking about a bomb exploding in the Montreal Canadiens organisation.

The rumor was that 3-4 Habs players would get arrested after landing from Pittsburg, for (pick anyone of these rumors) either sexual aggression, importing russian prostitutes, illegal gambling on the habs games, etc, etc.

Turns out that nothing happend...well almost nothing!

The Kostitsyn brothers and Hamrlik have been linked with an arrested individual from the "AXE" operation .

Well once again the montreal sports media have proven that they spread rumors as much as Ovechkin scores goals .

So if your looking for the real truth on all sports .... remember this blog ....it's always the truth!!

*Update* here an interview with Sergei Kostitsyn from toronto this after noon: video
